Technical Universities vs. University of Applied Sciences

How do I pick a college in Germany?

In Germany, there are many different types of universities. Major of them are Technical Universities and University of Applied Sciences.

Research-focused institutions include universities and universities of technology (TU). They can provide doctoral degrees and offer a wide range of subjects.

Contrarily, University of Applied Sciences i.e. Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften (HAW/FH) are practice-oriented universities that provide courses mostly in engineering, business administration, the social sciences, and design. These have solid connections to the market and provide interesting opportunities, such as cooperative supervision for your master’s thesis, where your professor and the business may jointly direct you. Although HAWs do not provide doctorate degrees, those who have a master’s degree from one are theoretically qualified to qualify for a PhD at a university.

Which of the two types of institutions you pick should be determined by your interests and preferences! There is no wrong decision when taking admission to German public universities as they all have quality education and high teaching standards. If your next step can be a doctoral degree then prefer to go to Technical universities.
